Reminder that nominations close on June 1, 11:59pm EDT.
  • DC Extended Universe (DCEU): Tags were nominated that include Lex Luthor Jr. This seems to be a character who appears in the comics but not the films. Did you mean to nominate Lex Luthor Sr.?
  • Avatar: The Last Airbender/Avatar: The Legend of Korra: As we are doing with other closely related sequel and companion series, we are inclined to approve these as a single fandom given the character overlap and continuity between them, and the pending "crossover" nominations from them. Is there a fandom tag that is generally used in the fandom to encompass both?
  • Drawing Blood - Poppy Z. Brite: Our research suggests that this book is set in the same place as Lost Souls (which we have already approved) and contains some of the same characters. We're not otherwise familiar with it; is the presence of Lost Souls characters more of an easter-egg sort of reference, or is this more like a single fandom where different installments focus on different characters?
  • Genjitsu mo Tama ni wa Uso wo Tsuku | Sometimes Reality Tells Lies Too (Manga): From what we can tell, this is the title of the first chapter of a manga called Hanging Out with a Gamer Girl. Nominator, can you clarify?
Thanks!

Since the AtLA tag and the Korra tag do not have any metatag in common (contrast for example Star Wars Original Trilogy and Star Wars Prequel Trilogy), I am guessing not. 🙁

I'd suspect wrangling guidelines would incline tag wranglers toward "Avatar - All Media Types" except there was that movie with the blue people. "Avatar: The Last Airbender & Related Fandoms", maybe?

Hi! So, Lost Souls and Drawing Blood are two distinct novels with entirely separate main characters and plots. Each novel has some scenes that take place in New Orleans, and some scenes that take place in a fictional small town in North Carolina. There are background characters who are residents of Missing Mile, NC who are present in both novels, but the focus of each is on different storylines and has different lead characters.
If the question was could these fandoms be merged, the answer is: not really as they're not part of a series and there's no overarching canon on AO3 for all works by the author. I hope that helps!

I just double checked and none of the nominated characters are present in both books.

I’ve only read Drawing Blood and Exquisite Corpse and I remember one of the characters from Drawing Blood being referenced in Exquisite Corpse. I believe references to his other work is just a feature of this author’s work. Another horror writer who does something similar is Stephen King. Brite’s references aren’t nearly as spread out as King’s because he was no where near as prolific as King so how could they be but I would consider Exquisite Corpse and Drawing Blood different canons despite the crossover elements in the same way I would consider The Shining and IT different canons despite a teenage version of the cook from The Shining showing up in the backstory of one of the main characters from IT’s father.

Yes! Thank you anon, I was trying to think of a comparable situation but couldn't and Stephen King's Easter egg character cameos across his oeuvre is an excellent one.

DCEU - Lex Luthor Jr

Lex Luthor Jr is the character featured in the DCEU.

Lex Luthor Sr is mentioned a lot in the film as well.

The Lex Luthor in the DCEU is specified to be Lex Luthor Jr. There is a point where Lex corrects someone who calls him "The man on the marquee" ie the Lex in the Lexcorp logo of the building. He states his father was "the Lex before the Corp". There was also viral marketing and interviews that referred to his father specifically as "Lex Luthor Sr" or "Alexander Luthor Sr".

Welcome! I think for the most part with comics it's just Lex Luthor (and in some comics he pretends to be a long lost son named Lex Luthor Jr.) - I'm not super familiar with Luthor in the comics and also comics continuity can be very confusing, lol.

I’d say the existence of a Jr or Sr is up in the air in the comics due to their long running nature causing some contradictions. I vaguely recall one story arc where Lex Luthor fakes his death and them came back claiming to be his own son but what that ends up saying about if he’d truly be a Sr or a Jr is kind of a wash. He’s just Lex Luthor. Whereas in the DCEU they establish the character Jesse Eisenberg plays as a Jr. with his father Lex Luthor Sr. coming up. I wouldn’t call this a straightforward adaptation of the comics, the DCEU version is Lex Luthor is pretty unlike any comics Lex I have ever seen and is very much a new incarnation of the character.

The manga, as far as I can tell, has more than one title listed in every available language/form, including English, Romanized Japanese, and not-romanized Japanese. According to people who I've talked to who are more familiar with the Japanese language than I am, the English title I've chosen to nominate it under is the closest to at least one of the Japanese titles; I don't really know, though.

If you want to change the title, or want me to change it, that's fine; it's a bit of a mess and I don't really know what the best option is.

About the two Tangled fandoms

So, this isn't a direct response to any questions, but since the clarifications mention the typical conflation for closely related fandoms, I thought it might be helpful to throw in my two cents here--if it's not, please ignore this.

I'd recommend approving Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure as a separate fandom to the movie Tangled, in part because to my knowledge there really isn't a metatag for them both, and also because of the massive lore expansion and character development that the series contains within it.

There are no main characters in the movie that don't get significant further development in the series, so even a request for characters who first appear in the film could be quite different if applied to those same characters as they appear in the series. If the two are put together, there would be no way to distinguish between such requests in matching.

Again, apologies if I'm overstepping here; I just thought the perspective might be helpful.

"Deanna Troi/M!Worf"

Oops, the M! went accidentally beside the wrong name, I meant to nominate "M!Deanna Troi/Worf". I can't fix this anymore myself, sorry.
